FRAGMIN is used to treat your blood clot to prevent a blood clot from coming back. It is very important that you follow your doctor’s directions on the use of FRAGMIN.

FRAGMIN dosage is based on your weight
- If you lose or gain weight, you should advise your healthcare professional, as the dosage of FRAGMIN may need to be adjusted.
Each syringe you are prescribed contains the required amount of FRAGMIN for one injection.
My FRAGMIN Schedule
FRAGMIN should be used once a day for an extended treatment period of up to six months. It is given as an injection under the skin.
- The treatment period with FRAGMIN will vary from patient to patient. Your healthcare professional will determine the length of time that is appropriate for you.
The rubber needle shield of the FRAGMIN prefilled syringe may contain latex. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have had or currently have a hypersensitivity to latex (natural rubber).
Why do patients with cancer develop blood clots?
Blood clots, also known as venous thromboembolism or VTEDeep vein thrombosis or DVT (a blood clot that occurs in the deep veins) and pulmonary embolism or PE (a blood clot that breaks off and travels to the lungs) together are known as venous thromboembolism or VTE., are one of the most common complications seen in patients with cancer.
- Patients with cancer are at least 6 times more likely to develop a blood clot compared to patients without cancer.
- Patients with cancer are more likely to have a recurrent blood clotBlood clots that occur again or repeatedly than patients without cancer.
There are several reasons why patients with cancer are at increased risk of developing a VTEDeep vein thrombosis or DVT (a blood clot that occurs in the deep veins) and pulmonary embolism or PE (a blood clot that breaks off and travels to the lungs) together are known as venous thromboembolism or VTE..
- Some cancers produce substances that activate the body’s clotting system
- In addition, some chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and other drug therapies used to treat cancer can increase the risk of blood clots
- Catheters in the big veinsA long thin flexible tube inserted through the arm or chest to reach a big vein near the heart. It is kept in place to provide long term medicine treatment, for example cancer therapy, or to take blood samples over a period of time. (such as PICC lines, ports, central or venous lines) can irritate the blood vessel and decrease blood flow
- Surgery and radiation therapy can also increase the risk of blood clots
