Patient in hospital bed with doctor by her bedside

I have had surgery

Your doctor has prescribed FRAGMIN to help prevent blood clots from developing as you have undergone surgery. It is very important that you follow your doctor’s directions on the use of FRAGMIN.

My FRAGMIN Treatment

My FRAGMIN Dosage

Each syringe you are prescribed contains the required amount of FRAGMIN for one injection.

My FRAGMIN Schedule

FRAGMIN is given as an injection under the skin.

For general surgery

  • You will be given your first injection 1‒2 hours before the operation.
    • After the operation, you will receive an injection each morning until you become mobile, in general 5‒7 days or longer.

For general surgery with additional risk factors

  • You will be given your first injection the evening before the operation.
    • After the operation, you will receive an injection that night and an injection each night until you become mobile.
  • As an alternative, your initial dose may be divided so that you receive your first injection 1‒2 hours before your operation followed by another injection no sooner than 4 hours after your operation, but at least 8 hours after your previous injection.
    • You will then receive an injection each day after until you become mobile.

For elective hip surgery

  • You will be given your first injection the evening before the operation.
    • After the operation, you will receive an injection that night and an injection each night until you become mobile.
  • As an alternative you may receive your first injection 1‒2 hours before your operation, or you may not receive any injection prior to surgery.
    • In either of these cases, you will then get an injection no sooner than 4‒8 hours after your operation.
    • You will then receive an injection each day after until you become mobile.

The rubber needle shield of the FRAGMIN prefilled syringe may contain latex. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have had or currently have a hypersensitivity to latex (natural rubber).
